ABSTRACT

L'introduzione allo studio del diritto inglese di Giovanni Criscuoli, sottotitolato Le Fonti, edito per la prima volta nel 1981, con prefazioni di prestigiosi giuristi italiani e stranieri, e successivamente aggiornato fino all'edizione del 2000, di 3 anni precedente la Sua prematura scomparsa, costituisce una pietra miliare nello studio di quell'ordinamento che l'usura del tempo non potrà scalfire. L'originalità del metodo, la ricchezza delle informazioni, la lucidità dell'analisi critica, la finezza espositiva fanno dell'opera un insuperato modello scientifico che continuerà ad ispirare più generazioni di comparatisti italiani e stranieri.

Late Professor Giovanni Criscuoli was one the most eminent Italian comparatists. He specialized in the English common law: He devoted most of his scientific works to the identification on a systematic basis of each formant which constitutes the coherent body of such a legal system. Though in an early stage He concentrated on a number of topics related to single institutes, such as the negative influence of unfair advertisements on the free formation of contracts, He then proceeded to a thorough study of the English law of contract in a monographic publication first edited in 1968 and subsequently updated in following editions. But the most renowned and successful volume encapsulating the great knowledge of the English law as a whole was his Introduction dedicated to The Sources firstly edited in 1981 and then updated until 2000, just 3 years before he sadly passed away. All the main aspects of such a peculiar legal system were dealt with in a clear and original form which continues to be a leading text in the matter.
